- General Meeting |

“The Network is the Computer”
Please
join our presenter, Jeff Harvey,
Business Consultant from CBTS, who will discuss the virtual desktop infrastructure
developed by Sun, that will
change the way many networks operate. All the applications
and data will be stored on a central server. The user can
log in from anywhere and their PC, Laptop, or mobile device
will instantly perform as if the central server was their
hard drive. The server will be more secure. Since all data
and applications are not on the local hard drive, any
compromise of a local device does not compromise the data.
The local device runs quicker, lasts longer, and will be
less expensive to purchase. Whether you run many
applications with a large amount of data, or are an average
user running many devices, Sun’s virtual desktop reduces
the maintenance, upgrading and operational costs associated
with most PC environments.
Come and
bring a friend ...
just forward this email with a personal invitation from you!

Highlights of upcoming SIG meetings :
Access Basics SIG: 11/10/2007 - "Normalization" -
Alan Birch
This does not require removal of hair dye, piercings or wild
clothing. Normalization is how you decide what data goes in
which table in Access. If done right, this significantly reduces
entering duplicate information. It can also reduce the chance of
entering the wrong information, and make it easier to put data
in.
It is common sense more than anything else, but it does require a little
thought. Doing this before you start building your tables can
save a lot of pain later. It is sort of like figuring out a
route on a map. If you know where you’re going, you’ll get
there.

Irfanview 4.0 - Freeware Image Editor and Media Player |
By Ira Wilsker

APCUG member groups.
Imagine a free (for non-commercial
use), full featured utility that can display and edit almost all
known image formats, and convert from any one format to any other.
Imagine a utility that can play almost every known audio and video
format with its free “Plugins” file, all in a small and very
efficient software package. Some skeptics may say that this sounds
too good to be true, but lucky for us, it is indeed true. The
program that can do all of the above, and more is the very popular
Irfanview, version 4.0 (www.irfanview.com), written by a Bosnian
named Irfan Skiljan...

Have you
accessed the WindowsXP “Restore” option to reset
your computer to an earlier time? We often need to do this when
things go haywire after installing some new software. Fiddling
around with old programs or offbeat wares can sometimes land you
in hot water operating wise. I found myself in just such a mess
not long ago. Fortunately I had made a restore point prior to
installing the renegade software, so I was able to use it to get
things back to normal. Well, almost...
