Feature Presentations
KIPCUG's position of prominence among user groups has attracted preeminent computer industry representatives to our group. Past visits from industry leaders like Corel, Symantec, Broderbund, Lexmark, American Power Conversion, Borland, Intuit, and Microsoft indicate the caliber and timeliness of our presentations.

The introduction of WordPerfect 6.0 was made personally by the company's co-founder Dr. Alan Ashton. Dr. Ashton also took us into the future with his Paperless Office'' presentation.
Microsoft introduced Windows 95 to an unprecedented crowd at Louisville Gardens. Louisville was chosen as the second city of twelve to see their World Tour. We've also seen Windows XP and Office 2003 unveiled locally by Microsoft.

We've had telecommunications demonstrations from commercial services as well as from our own BBS, The Fifth Dimension (no longer available). We've seen databases from Clarion, Oracle, Paradox and FoxPro. MECA showed TAXCUT and Intuit presented Quicken. Quarterdeck presented QEMM. IBM showed us OS/2. APC warned of the dangers to our computers from unprotected power.

As the computer industry changes trust KIPCUG to chronicle the latest in technology. Major computer companies regard our group as a prestigious audience worthy of and receptive to the finest presentations of the latest products and techniques.

General Meetings
KIPCUG's regular monthly meetings are planned so that both new and experienced users can grow, sharing insight and solutions to common challenges. Our general meetings are free and open to members, their guests and visitors.

KIPCUG's stature as one of the nation's top user groups has enabled us to bring exceptional presentations to our membership.

The usual agenda follows a format designed to maximize information exchange at several levels of expertise.

  • 6:00 Doors Open - Membership, SIG tables

  • 6:30 Welcome - introductions and general announcements

  • 6:50 User to User - members pose questions written prior to the meeting and our moderators endeavor to obtain answers from the audience. The questioner often seeks private discussion with problem solvers after the meeting. Such interaction between members has been a valuable aspect of our group.

  • 7:15 Back to Basics - a review of elementary topics, often as valuable to experienced users as it is to novices

  • 7:45 Feature Presentation - a timely topic (or two) of general interest, by software and hardware vendors and manufacturers, or by nationally recognized authorities. Most sessions include lots of dialogue with the audience.

  • 9:00 Wrap up - Your chance to question the experts. There are usually valuable door prizes, donated by our presenters, sometimes introductory special offers or money saving coupons are available

It is mailed to regular members, and is also available in public libraries and distributed free of charge to some computer retailers and booksellers as a community service. Guests who register at our general meetings will receive the next issue in the mail as a reminder about our next meeting.

Special Interest Groups
SIGs arise from a recognition by two or more members that there is a better way to master specific computing problems than working alone. Meetings are held at the mutual convenience of the members and SIG leaders, focusing on issues in far greater detail than would be possible in general meetings. Up-to-date SIG schedules and leaders' names are listed in Computer User News. Currently active SIGs include Visual Basic, Hardware, Investing, Genealogy, Windows, Access, Webmasters, Digital Photography, Utilities, and our New Users, Intermediate, and Advanced Users SIGS.

What is KIPCUG?
The Kentucky-Indiana Personal Computer User's Group, from its beginning in the spring of 1983, has grown into a dynamic non-profit corporation, focused on educating and encouraging newcomers to computing as well as sharing technical information.

KIPCUG is a forum for individuals who use personal computers compatible with the IBM PC-DOS and MS-DOS operating systems. We have expanded our horizons to include Windows and OS/2 systems, technologies which link PC's together and other computing platforms.
KIPCUG is viewed as one of the leading groups in the nation by industry giants such as IBM, Microsoft, Novell and others. KIPCUG is a charter member of APCUG, the Association of Personal Computer User Groups, linking us with similar groups all over the United States.
