Intuit brought March in like a Lion! Leanne Brown, District Sales Manager brought us up to date on the latest versions of TurboTax software just in time for getting our taxes done. Or well ahead of time if you are one of those who wait ‘til the last minute to do your taxes.

A couple of years ago, Intuit got some bad press and ill feeling because of something they added to their tax software. Leanne went to great lengths to explain this situation. It seems that several million more tax returns were being filed than copies of software were being sold. What would you do if this were your business and livelihood? Well, Intuit decided to add some software to prevent multiple uses of their products. There were unfounded rumors that it was actually a form of spyware. Leanne assured us that that was not the case and that Intuit has exactly zero interest in what you have in your computer. They maintain vast amounts of information in their computers from customers who use their online tax and accounting software and could not afford to lose the loyalty of those customers.

In addition to bringing us up to date on TurboTax’s latest improvements, Leanne answered numerous questions that our members had about various aspects of the programs and taxes. She also discussed Its Deductible and gave a brief demonstration of how it works and why it can save you valuable dollars on your taxes.

Since Leanne is with Intuit and not just TurboTax she also asked for questions about Quicken and QuickBooks. Numerous questions ranged from the relatively simple items to complex things like figuring interest on discounted bonds and maintaining depreciating records on multiple rental real estate holdings. If you have ever tried to handle such problems without a computer you can really appreciate the benefits such software provides the user.

In addition to Leanne’s knowledge of Intuit’s various software programs she also brought along an ample supply of door prizes for the benefit of our members ranging from QuickBooks, Quicken, and TurboTax programs to slightly wrinkled (that should read interestingly packaged) Tee shirts. I didn’t know you could get a tee shirt into that shape and that amount of space! I think I counted over twenty door prizes. That means that your odds of going home with nice memento of the evening’s event were pretty good.
