Dr.
Wong will speak on "Using a Personal Computer for Investment information",
making the October meeting very educational. With a large number of
investors in our group and quite a few members wanting to know more about
their retirement accounts or how use their PC for information on investing,
this will be a very informative meeting, so bring your note pad. Dr. Wong is
Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Louisville and a
long time KIPCUG Member.
Many of us do not call brokers to buy or sell stocks; therefore, we do not
consider ourselves "investors". Nevertheless, we may still be involved in
stock markets, for example, most of us have retirement accounts, such as
401(k), 403(b), 457, IRA, or 529 Education Savings Plans. Currently the
interest rates are so low that the savings accounts return almost nothing.
Money market funds return less than 1%. What are the alternatives? Are there
solid investments that return 10% or better? (Answer: Yes) The big question
is where does one get good information? Dr. Julius P. Wong will give us the
answers!
Are you interested in meeting others to share investment ideas, for example,
the KIPCUG's Investing SIG, and Technical Market Analysis SIG? Outside
KIPCUG, there is the Louisville Chapter of American Association of
Individual Investors (AAII), and other groups. On the Internet, there are
many good sites for investment information, such as Bloomberg, briefing.com,
CBS MarketWatch, MSN MoneyCentral, Multex, Yahoo, etc. There are also
investment groups such as iHub, Raging Bull, Silicon Investor, Yahoo, etc.
How does one make good use of these groups?
In addition to US stocks, there are mutual funds, closed-end funds, and
foreign stocks. How to find useful information on funds or foreign vehicles?
Learn about all this and more with Dr. Wong at the October KIPCUG General
Meeting.
